Happy Canada Day!!

Happy 144th birthday Canada! The weather looks good and lots of activities are planned in and around Calgary this weekend. Let's take a break from all the serious issues we've been discussing in our BLOG and anticipate the fun you will have (hopefully) over the long weekend. Tell your classmates what you are planning to do or if you blog later on, what you have done this weekend. If you didn't celebrate Canada Day in a big way, tell us what kind of celebrations your country holds for its big birthdays.
As usual, please submit by Tuesday, July 5th midnight.

  2. YanLi,SiTu WOOHOO! Happy Canada’s day, I m so excited, Can’t wait to go princes's island and see the firework this night. Hope can see some of you there. July 1 is CPC founding day, and same as there, long weekends. Celebration? Ummm, most of the channels will play the history of China, nothing special. I don't think we have fireworks, but we do have it on Oct 1, which is China’s day or National day. Due to I was not in China for two days, my blurry memory only can tell me the last time I saw firework in my hometown was after 9,pm. It’s not that impressive like Calgary’s. Besides, we seemed not have any dancing or singing show...

  3. Good evening! Have you enjoyed happy Canada??
I was so excited to do volunteer^^ I was volunteering to do temporary tattoo for children and people at Prince's island park. Even though there was so long line up, people seemed very happy. There were people to keep order very well. Also I will see fireworks with my friends after I will watch boxing in the pub, go to Banff to have barbecue. Actually, I worry about my homeworkㅠㅠ.

One thing I learned from volunteer was that something I do for people that feel really happy.
    Have nice weekends!!

Also,I saw the flame at the top of the Calgary Tower that was burning. So, excited!!! To wrap up: Happy Birth Day Canada! I find you very friendly and welcoming and I just love to be here!I am proud to be part of this nation! I am proud to be Canadian!

  5. First of all, I would like to salute our home Canada and all the Canadians for the 144th birthday of our nation's confederation. May God bless this majestic land and gives it a brighter future. We shall always be proud to be a part of this glorious nation and also be grateful to this country that opened its hands to us and provided us a whole new life. In terms of my celebration of this day, I enjoyed the holiday with my family since everybody was having a day off. We spent the day watching the broadcasting of the celebrations from Ottawa with the presence of prince William and Kate. It was such an awesome event with them in Parliament Hill and I can't wait to see them here in Calgary on Stampede day.

  7. In the mornign on Canada day, my family was in the Edenworth park ang barbecuing with my church members togather. We finished our celebrating at 3:00pm. Then, my son and I went to Prince Island where my son had a lot of fun because he likes music and he watched musical performances for 1 hour there.
In China, we celebrate China Day on October 1st. Because we have 7 day off( including 4 days from two weekend) for China Day, my husband and I usually did travling to other cities or provinces, while a lot of people travle to other contries. We also have fireworks and entertainment activities for celebrating that big day.

  8. Wow everybody seemed to have a great Canada day! I had a great day too, even though I couldn't go to Banff this year to watch the parade. Instead of that, my family went around the streets in downtown and we watched the fireworks at night. Canadians really love their country, I saw a lot of people wearing shirts or hats which say "I love my Canada" and in the night, when we watched the fireworks, a lot of people cheered, said "Happy birthday, Canada" and even sang the song "0h, Canada" during the fireworks. I think that Canada is not something big but a kind friend and a family member in each Canadian's heart.

  9. Happy Canada day!!!!!!
I enjoyed this day by moving to the new home because i wanna be free from any boundaries that stops my wishes and desire so I symbolize this day as a freedom day. Nepal is the one country that was never ruled by other country even British government; therefore, we don’t have any independent day because we never became dependant. British Government tried to win over my country but during the different circumstances they couldn’t rule my country that’s why every year they hire armies from my country. However, we have Democracy day and we celebrate it with various kinds of programs.

  10. Hi, everyone! Last Friday was Canada day!! I hope you guys had a lovely holiday! This was Canada day that will be on my mine forever because I volunteered at the Prince’s Island Park and it was my first time to do a volunteer work in Canada, so I had a special time on Canada day. At that time, I was on temporary tattoo shift, was very interesting. Therefore, I was so engrossed in the service that I lost track of time. Many people turned out in the park to celebrate Canada day, so our temporary tattoo tent was also busy. Adults and children without exception had temporary tattoos and they were diverted by the tattoos which were on their arms or cheeks. When I saw them, my efforts were rewarded, so I want to do something worthwhile again. For that reason, I decided that I will do volunteer work on next Canada day again.

  12. It was nice day on Canada day!!! I believed that everyone enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I worked the long weekend, so I could not celebrate on Canada day.

In Japan, we have National Foundation Day on February 11 and it is national holiday; however, we do not celebrate. When I asked my Japanese friends why we do not celebrate our national foundation day, our answer was cultural things, and then we could not find the reason.

  13. Hi Vanessa,

You had a great the long weekend.
I am interested in your volunteering on Canada day. How did you find it? If I have day off next year on Canada day, I would like to do!
My reality is to work on the day every year…

  14. This is my second Canada Day, and I'll have more to come in the future. All these years, I can feel my love for this country has increased quietly. When red and white fireworks which stand for the color of Canada bloomed in the sky, when O' Canada lingered in that sweet summer night, I felt my heart sank and tears running in my eyes. Happy birthday Canada!Today, I'm so excited about being a part of you, as the same as I sing the National Anthem of the PRC standing under Five-Starred Red Flag because I am proud of living in peace.

  15. Hi everybody,
From your comments I see you had a great Canada day. Unfortunately, this year I didn't celebrate it because I helped my friend to move in a new apartment. Therefore, I have to write about my country birthday. Bulgaria is an old country and in the sources which we have there isn't day of establishment only the year of it which is 681. However, we have very special day of celebration which is March 3 on this day in 1878 Bulgaria released from Turkish rule. We celebrate this day dance a traditional dancing called "horo" in downtown. Also, there are different activities such as concerts, children's games and etc. Moreover, the families get together and there is a lot of food because when Bulgarians celebrate something the food is one of the main thing.

  16. Hi Ruiling,
I think like you and fell like you when I hear the Canadian anthem. The same like you I am proud of living here even though, I didn't have the opportunity to celebrate Canada day this year.

  17. Happy Canada Day EAP class! Even it is a little late!
My Canada's Day was wonderful. It was Saturday morning. The sun was shining. Its rays went through my bedroom’s window. I felt something different, not like other usual days and I got up. After eating lunch, I had a call from my friends to do biking exercise from the N.W following the Bow River to the Prince's island park. It was exciting especially when we arrived to the park. There were a lot of people in the park. Some people were enjoying eating, others buying things or enjoying activities, and many having fun with the concert. We had some fun and we got Canada’s flags. We enjoyed our day celebrating Canada’s day by doing biking exercise, and having fun in the Prince’s island park.

  18. Hi Fadi;
Your way of celebrating Canada Day is different but interesting. The best thing is that you spent time and energy to follow the celebration. It remembers me the way that I celebrate my country’s independence every July 5th, staying with my family watching the celebration on live on TV. Also it remembers me the warmth discussion and fun with my family especially in religious or national day. Next year, it should be exciting too if you celebrate it outside.

  19. Hello Everyone, this is my second Canada day and for first time my family has enjoyed the fireworks. My kids felt surprised for such party of colours in the sky, I also felt joy at seeing their eyes shining. Somehow it reminded me the traditions in my country. Unlike Canada, when we have fireworks in my country a big social dance comes after, with people singing, dancing and of course drinking. In short words, I enjoyed that day cause I've spent with my family all day. I hope all of you've enjoyed.

  20. I celebrated Canada day by going to work and paying tax to the government. I also watched the celebration in Ottawa unfold on TV. The Canada day celebration is a little more exciting this year because Kate and William came all the way to Canada to celebrate Canada day with us. I could see a lot of happy faces from children when they saw the loyal couple. What surprise me the most was that William actually speaks French. If Prince William can learn French as a second language (FSL ), then I think we should be able to learn ESL.

In China, we celebrate national day with seven days holiday. Some people will take this opportunity to visit other countries. Other will visit different national parks and cities in China. For example, normally the Forbidden City has about 50,000 visitors daily. But on the national holidays, the number of visitors went up to as high as 120,000 per day. There are parades and concerts in almost every big city. There are fireworks in every city on October 1st.

To sum up, a national day is a day to celebrate a country’s success and unity. I wish both countries are getting more prosperous in the years to come. Happy Canada day! Everybody!

  21. Hi everyone,
Going through all of the comments, I came to know that every person celebrated Canada day in one or another way. To mark Canada day, I went to Prairie Park with my wife and two lovely daughters. The City of Calgary and some people of North East had organized the program. There were some fun activities, especially for children. My two daughters were so glad to attend the program where they had lots of fun activities. This was our first opportunity to celebrate Canada day. We found difference in marking independence day in Canada. I think it may be different in other countries. When I compared it to democracy day of country of origin, I found several differences. First of all, our leaders deliver ambitious speeches, but they do not perform what they speak. In Canada,I did not find such a situation. Everyone celebrated Canada day with happiness, whereas in Nepal, those who are near to political leaders and power attend democracy day. Ordinary people seem reluctant as they impose bad governance on people. This could be due to practices of good and bad governance, which is one of the indicators of democratic and autocratic political systems in the countries. Anyway, I enjoyed Canada day a lot with my family members.

  22. Hi Bishal,
I know you had to move from your old residence to new one. It was your first priority and in my opinion, it should be as well. It is also one way of celebrating Canada day. So far I know, you respect Canada by heart and next time you will be able to mark Canada day attending the program physically. At that time, you will be with your sons and wife to celebrate it.
